On Saturday, Cunningham and the Oklahoma State took the No.7 ranked Oklahoma Sooners. It was a fantastic game that went into overtime, and the Cowboys won in upset 94-90. Cade was outstanding in the game scoring 40 points on 12-21 shooting from the field. Also, Cunningham made 13 of 14 free throws and added 11 rebounds.
Cunningham’s season-high on the season before this game was 29 points, and he is the Big 12 leading scorer as a freshman. Via ESPN.com, Cade had this to say about his performance. “I think getting the win was how I wanted to put my plant on Bedlam,” the 6-foot-8 point guard said. “I have a trust in my coaches and teammates, allowing me to get 40, but I think we all played to win, and that’s what I’m most happy about.”
Cunningham’s full offensive arsenal was on full display in this game; he could drive the basket, hit pull-up jumpers off the dribble and knock down some three-point shots. Cade made 3 of 8 shots beyond the arc. Ten of Cunningham’s points came in the overtime period where he took the game over. Cunningham proved he is worthy is the No.1 pick.
It was a massive win for the Cowboys, beating a conference rival ranked in the top-10. With this win, the Cowboys should jump into the top-25. Maybe with this win, Oklahoma State can gain momentum heading into tournament time.
