What’s going on sports fans? I hope you had a great weekend! I literally got the idea for this piece inside a Starbucks cafe and I’m so glad I did!! I feel as if sports fans like myself look heavily on an athlete’s age to determine their success rate for years to come. Some athletes’ performances crumble as they older, but then there are the ones that defy the odds. It is my solemn duty to report on these “special cases” because I don’t know about y’all, but I want to be in great shape when I hit 40, so let’s get started with the recent fight card!

Did you guys catch the latest UFC Fight Night in Vancouver? I only caught the last three fights of the main card and I was not disappointed in the least! Especially that hell of a co-main between light heavyweights, Nikita Krylov, and Glover Teixeira! As impressive as Krylov’s resume was, 39-year-old Brazilian fighter, Glover Teixeira, didn’t look a day over 20 in the octagon! With his 40th birthday looming near next month, Teixeira said in his post-fight interview with former Heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier, that the secret to his continual success is hard work and focus. That was evident this past Saturday, going the distance with Krylov (who has finished all his past opponents), and getting the split decision win.

One over 40 fighter that got robbed (in my opinion) of the win in his last fight is Cuba’s Soldier of God, Yoel Romero. I’m not going to get into the semantics of the UFC 241 matchup, but I will however marvel at how amazing Romero looks for the ripe age of 42! Many MMA fans were already excited to see two hulk-like middleweight juggernauts in Romero and Paulo Costa face off, and honestly, I think Romero looks in better shape and it has to do with his age! For those who don’t know about Romero, he trains at American Top Team, resides in Miami, Florida by way of Cuba. I guess with the right discipline, amazing coaches like Mike Brown, and training along aside badass fighters like Jorge Masvidal, it’s no wonder the Soldier of God is in tip-top shape!

Speaking of being in tip-top shape, Tom Brady’s TB12 fitness regime treating him well these past seasons! The 42-year-old New England Patriots’ starting quarterback has just accumulated his 6th Super Bowl Championship last year, and he has no plans of slowing down anytime soon! Brady just signed a $41 million, two-year contract extension with his team. It’s only two weeks into the season, and the Patriots have already outscored their opponents 76-3! Y’all can say whatever you want about the Patriots playing in an easy division each year – this year I believe the Buffalo Bills are the team to watch out for in the AFC East–but at the end of the day, Brady sticks to what he does best (short passes, running game) which also reduces his chance of injury and get’s the team the W. If y’all want to know more about Brady and his disciplined routine, you can watch his Facebook Watch short documentaries talking about his workout, diet, and team building!
