FORT WORTH, TX: The NASCAR Gardner Outdoor Trucks Series have made their way to the 1.5 mile track of Texas Motor Speedway, getting ready for the Speedycash.com 400.
The fastest car during the first practice was Ben Rhodes in the 99 Carolina Nut Ford F-150 who had a lap of 180.681 mph. His teammate Johnny Sauter in the 13 Tenda Heal Ford would finish second with a speed of 180.373 mph. Grant Enfinger in the 98 ProtectTheHarvest.com Ford for Germain Racing who had a lap of 180.144 mph, Sheldon Creed in the 2 Chevrolet Accessories was fourth with 180.066 mph and Brett Moffitt in the 24 Central Plains Cement Company Chevrolet with 179.850 mph. Jordan Anderson, Matt Crafton, Austin Hill, Stewart Friesen, and Ross Chastain rounded out the top 10.
There was also big news this week as former Cup series driver Greg Biffle would return to NASCAR for the truck race, racing in the 51 Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports. Boggles last race was the 2016 Ford Ecoboost 400. The 2000 truck champion Biffle would finish the first practice in 11th place with a fastest lap of 178.849. In second practice, he finished 12th with a speed of 181.202mph, and finished final practice 16th with a speed of 181.433mph. This looks like as it will only be a one race thing for Biffle, but it will be good to see a former cup driver return for a race, and who know, maybe more.
The second and third practices were both swept by Johnny Sauter who in the second finished with a lap of 184.168mph, and 183.237mph in the final practice session. The top 10 best consecutive lap averages during all three practice sessions were Johnny Sauter, Sheldon Creed Grant Enfinger, Austin Hill, Todd Gilliland, Greg Biffle, Austin Wayne Self, Tyler Ankrum Gus Dean and Brennan Pool.
The Speedycash.com 400 will be tomorrow qualifying will begin around 5:35 while the race will begin at 9pm on Fox Sports 1.
